The lyrics to the theme song are by Tom Ruegger, and the music is by Richard Stone, but performed by the uncredited men.

Main title sequence[]

The main title sequence begins with a revealing spot, spelling the titular character's name. Freakazoid uses a flashlight, going strong, but powerful and looking below out his bottoms. Again, they spelled out the titular character's name. Freakazoid is flying high while his mouth sticking out and zooms to his chest emblem. Freakazoid is running on the top of his name. At night, the president's building stays here and Freakazoid (he's on the television) pops up while grabbing with a small president's building. The third time that the titular character's name spelled out. Freakazoid changes channel and eats unhealthy food. The titular character's name turned upside down (orange and blue colors) and stacked up with the normal one (with purple and green colors). The outline-drawn Freakazoid points his brain, flipping back to the real Freakazoid, dumping chocolate on his head. Transition to his chomping, there's a uncolorized scene where a therapist explains to Freakazoid. The speech bubbles read the titular character's name, but the text became colored. Transition to ripping, Freakazoid's real alter-ego is typing to the desktop, pressing the "DELETE" key and flying to the desktop screens while transporting to the virtual world. The real alter-ago transforms into Freakazoid and playing the villains' heads like a xylophone, but painfully strikes mallets on his head, going 100% crazy. Freakazoid's head is spinning around to the tower. The neon-light sign reads the titular character's name and Freakazoid pretends to be as turkey meat while eating the green fruit. Floyd cuts off Freakazoid's hair and a chimpanzee points his new haircut. The large, orange-colored text reads the titular character's name. Transition to breaking, Freakazoid is jumping higher while riding a racecar. While driving fast in tracks, The blue-colored text reads the titular character's name. In the last few scenes, Freakazoid is in jail after going crazy, standing in the walk of fame with people in cameras, pointing himself with the clones of hands, wanting to be a president, marching while the people and his girlfriend clap, adding confetti and fireworks. Freakazoid's emblem opens with himself and villains being naked with barrels. Freakazoid (he's onto education) wearing graduation attire, pointing to the school's boards. They wrote the titular character's name in chalk. The series' logo appears and the glowing Freakazoid jumps.

Versions[]

There are a few variations on the main title.

Chimpanzee[]

Four different shots are used for the "chimpanzee" line throughout the series:

  • A live-action jumping chimp (Episode 1, Episode 8, Episode 10, Episode 11, Episode 13, Episode 15, Episode 16, Episode 22)
  • Two animated chimps (Episode 2, Episode 7, Episode 17)
  • A live-action chimp wringing his hands (Episode 3, Episode 6, Episode 9, Episode 18, Episode 21, Episode 23)

While most episodes feature a shot of Freakazoid behind bars for the "Freakazoo" line, a shot of the package for a Free Kazoo appears in all of the episodes with the "hand-wringing chimp," with the exception of Episode 3 (i.e., in Episodes 6, 9, 18, 21 and 23).

Other Variations[]

The main title to Episode 7 has a subliminal Emmitt Nervend cameo spliced in.

Episode 6A features a Spanish-language version of the main title.

Trivia[]

  • The theme song won the 1996 Daytime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Original Song".
  • Floyd the Barber is a character from The Andy Griffith Show.
  • The main title sequence was storyboarded by the first season's producer Mitch Schauer.[1]
  • Freakazoid playing the villains' heads like a xylophone is very similar to a shot in the Animaniacs (which Spielberg created) main title sequence.
  • In the shot of Freakazoid hitting the villains in the head with mallets, three characters to the far right appear to be gargoyles, making fun of the competitor animated series from Disney. One of the characters seems to have a haircut similar to Goliath on Gargoyles.
  • The shot of the television features the realistic, annoyingly large, opaque and distracting logo that Kids' WB! (until 1997) put in the right-hand corner of all broadcasts during the time when Freakazoid! was on the network.
  • In "Freakazoid Is History!" Freakazoid says he wants to cut Dexter (his real alter-ego) out of the main title sequence.
  • A demo for Richard Stone's first attempt at a Freakazoid! theme, done in the style of 1950s and 1960s instrumental rock, was played for the first time publicly at Freak-A-Con! 2018, but this series was first premiered 23 years later.
  • Freakazoid, Mo-Ron and Fan Boy later perform a Star Wars-styled arrangement of the theme song during the cantina scene in the Pinky and the Brain series finale "Star Warners."
